Waxahachie High School
 C. 1959

The Austin-based architectural firm of C.H. Page and Brother designed the classically detailed high school (Survey Site No. 133) in 1918.

Bet You Didn't Know
(or care...)

Yep, we all know that "The High School" has been here FOREVER.  I mean it was there when our older brothers and sisters went there... and it was OLD then!  I mean, look at all those millions of names written on the gymn ceiling. It takes a long time to write/carve all of those. (I'd like to maim the guy that painted over all those.) Well, the school was actually built in 1918, making it a whopping 40 years old when we started there. Now before you get too carried away with that fact and start bragging to your kids, realize that the "new" school we got to attend for half a year, North Side Elementary, is now officially 40 years old! I wonder what those kids now think of it?

The History Lesson

Did you ever wonder (...yeah, sure...) what was used for the High School BEFORE "our" High School?

If our Waxahachie High School was built in 1918, what did they use in 1917 (caves?) ?? The answer is Central Ward. It stood where Marvin Elementary now stands. Actually, you and I went there, but just didn't know it at the time. But that's another story (see Marvin Elementary)

Sure, NOW They Pave The Parking Lot...

And Our ENTIRE Class Couldn't Fill Half The Front Steps..

PLEASE NOTE:

A special THANK YOU to the Ellis County Museum and Staff for letting me use them as a source for this info. They, Billy Hancock, and the Junior Historians have done a super job of providing some great historical insights into Waxahachie and Ellis County.

SEE, I told you so... it was only 14 years old when they got a new high school!
