After-Game Party
Lois Stroope
Friday night for the party, Claire, Dawn and Jan put together a very funny skit with narration and songs from our generation.
Everyone was laughing and really enjoying the skit. The end was on its way when the school song started playing. I could feel the chills start up my back and wondered, does everyone feel the same about this song as I do? We all stood in a circle and held our hands in the air. When it was over I could see tears in some of our eyes. That song is still a big part of our lives. The words mean and say everything.
For me that was one of the best parts of the weekend. ”Hail to thee, Waxahachie High.”

The party after the game at the Stroope's was great fun. The food was wonderful, and the program couldn't have been better. Larry was the perfect MC. As far as I'm concerned, he should always perform as such. The program was cleverly done for the awards. I especially enjoyed Philip Lerway's. The award certificates were so clever!
Bill Hughes gave a very sweet, touching farewell to our group of deceased graduates. We all shared a close bond at this party, at this moment and during the school song.
Claire and Dawn's sing-a-long was wonderful group participation.
I loved being able to do a slide presentation, but I needed MORE photos from other people! It really bothered me to have to use so much of my personal album inventory. Group participation was again good here and everyone enjoys looking back.

What can I say...Lois and Jack are gluttons for punishment !! I'm still wondering how Jack talked his neighbors out of coming over to their house and doing with that whistle what all my old classmates had already suggested that they'd do if I didn't stop using it. Hint: .....the sun don't shine!! Great party!! Nancy made enough food for us to use at the hospitality suite and still have enough to support Ellis County Meals-On-Wheels for two consecutive weeks, plus, it was all good.
Memories: Watching Mike Hastings (and others) get totally excited over Janet's slides of classes from closer to forty years ago, meeting people nobody knew but ”remembered” as having been best-of-friends with (guess I'm just jealous as he was taller, less grey, and obviously much younger than me or the rest of us), even more old friends I hadn't seen that hadn't made the parade or the float, a great slide show from Janet (Janet, why keep going back to the court house...the only time I went there was to pay tickets for noisy mufflers or to watch the contestants in the Miss Waxahachie contest on the square during the Optimist Carnival), Rob Tenery sacrificing his dignity in playing the part of the ”solo porcelain hugger” (Janet, you should have stayed later at the party and gotten some current shots of the rest of us), the Philip Lerway ”Potato(e) Award”, a very botched but fun skit presentation, a very sad but beautiful remembrance of gone-but-never-forgotten classmates by Bill Hughes and a rendition of ”Waxahachie High” rivaled only by Ray Charles' ”America” or Jimmy Reed's ”Bright Lights, Big City.” A big thanks to Janet. Few people can/will/would appreciate the time, effort, expense and frustrations associated with the pre- sentation. (Well, I bet Rob can/does.) Only Janet would be brave enough and thoughtful enough to actually and especially, sincerely, speak with us dunderhead smokers about quitting. I won't, but I want her to know that I love her like a sister for caring enough to even try. Her awards and gifts meant a lot and I know I speak for the other recipients when I say that they will always be special.
