Arriving at the new stadium for the game, with its giant crowd and homecoming ceremony, made me realize how lucky we were to have grown up in a sheltered time as we did.
Waxahachie was small enough then for us to know everyone. There were no gun checks or threats, except for teachers checking for liquor! We brought hot chocolate, however. A thermos was allowed in the stadium.
Our homecoming ceremony was done with the nominees wearing a suit and heels; no formals on the field. No dads, just our escorts helped us on and off.
As I looked around, I realized that we were now the adults! The teachers we once had at WHS were really looking ”OLD.” Going back takes a lot of courage! Wondered how we looked to them?
We did enjoy being with our group and having everyone together in a SMOKE-FREE environrnent, although this was certainly hard for some around us. Several left at the half and Steve Fincher mentioned something about snow.

Personally, I couldn't relate to a team that led 42-0 at the half. This sounded more like our career record….. in reverse. Sorry, I left at the half. I guess I felt that the team had overcome the hard part by that time. It's still interesting to see how many ”old timers” of our days still strongly support the team. I've only been twice (20 and 30-year reunions) since graduation. There have been too many changes in schools, students and football skills for me to relate to. Besides, who'd trust a school district that would turn the high school into an elementary school and then get rid of the best side of the football stands in the old stadium.
